Auktion: Bonhams, Scottsdale 2018, verkauft für 1’512’500 Dollar, mit diesen Informationen: «This outstanding example of Ferrari’s legendary F40 was hand-built as a US market car at the Maranello Ferrari works during March of 1991. According to factory records and the research of Ferrari historian Marcel Massini, this F40 received its final inspections on April 2nd, 1991, and the factory warranty started on May 25th that same year. Original and extremely well preserved, this car still wears its factory-applied Rosso Ferrari paint, and Stoffa Vigogna racing seats to this day. The new F40 was delivered to Lake Forest Sports Cars, the official Ferrari agency of Lake Bluff, Illinois, and remained in the Land of Lincoln until the early 2000s. By 2002, the car was in the north east, with a recorded mileage of just 1,062 miles. In 2009, the F40 had relocated westwards to California, at which point the recorded mileage was 1,723 miles. Soon after, the highly original Ferrari returned to the North East, where it has since 2015 formed part of an exquisite collection of the most exotic sports- and supercars ever built.
In addition to its original and preserved condition, this exceptional F40 boast a documented maintenance history. In November 2014, Ferrari specialist Miller Motorcars of Greenwich, Connecticut comprehensively serviced the F40. The receipt for this work, which total over $10,400 and accompanies the car, shows replacement of fluids, spark plugs, air filters, and the all-important timing belts, tensioners and associated seals and gaskets. A correct Tubi exhaust was fitted in the past, but the original exhaust system accompanies the car. Additionally, the complete and unused set of original fitted luggage is included in the original cotton bags – a rare find these days. The F40 has been inducted into Ferrari’s Classiche Certification program, and the red Classiche binder issued by Ferrari SpA accompanies the car, along with the original tool kits, original spare keys, owner’s booklet folder and car cover. With just 2,428 original miles from new at the time of cataloging, this must be one of the lowest mileage and best kept US spec F40’s in existence. This time capsule Ferrari still retains its original factory applied paint, alloy wheels, factory interior and exterior components, and the factory applied decals and emissions components.»
