Sbarro Super Eight

Thick and short

Of course, we still have to tell the story of Franco Sbarro and his sometimes very wild constructions, a brief overview can be found here. But because a construction that is so typical of the Swiss designer’s creativity and sometimes really weird approaches is for sale, we want to present the Sbarro Super Eight here.

You can see: a small car. The vehicle is actually only 3.15 metres long (and at least 1.75 metres wide and 1.30 metres high). You can also see the real 80s, wild extensions, it could also be a tuning kit from the cheapest supplier that has been stuck on. But the ribbed side air intakes actually have a function, because the Sbarro Super Eight is built on a shortened platform of a Ferrari 308. And as is well known, the engine is in the middle of that. And this 260-hp V8 needs air. In fact, all the technology was taken from the Ferrari. Five gears are shifted in an open gate, and the power is transmitted to the rear wheels (16 inches), of course. Inside, too: 80s at its finest.

Sbarro had already built the Super Twelve in 1982, coupling two Kawasaki six-cylinder engines from the Z1300 together. This resulted in around 240 hp, which, according to Sbarro, allowed the machine, which weighed just 800 kilograms, to move along quite nicely. The Super Eight came in 1984, probably performed even better – and, like its little brother with the twelve-cylinder engine, remained a one-off. Which is for sale at Bring A Trailer (December 2024).

You can always find other extraordinary vehicles: hier.
