The white Ferrari Enzo

The Unicorn

What else is there to write about the Ferrari Enzo? It was exactly 20 years ago that this super sports car came onto the market – and put everything in the shade. Not only did it have a big, big name, it also had a mighty engine (6-litre V12, 660 hp, 657 Nm), accelerated to 100 in under 4 seconds, ran at a maximum speed of 355 km/h. 349 units were to be built, but 400 were actually built, and the basic price was an incredible 662,000 euros at the time. The design was by Pininfarina – and came without spoilers.

Of the 400 units, probably about 20 received special treatment – “extracampionario”, as Ferrari called it at the time. Only very good customers were able to make special requests, usually concerning the interior or the paintwork. The Enzo with chassis number 133023 was one of these “specials” – at the request of the first owner, a German-Swiss billionaire, it was painted white. Bianco Avus, to be precise. This is the only Enzo in white, so that is quite clear – it is a unicorn.

The car, which spent its last years in Hong Kong, has not been driven much: it has only 9600 kilometres on the clock. And, of course, all the Ferrari papers attesting to its authenticity. It will be auctioned online by RM Sotheby’s on 29/30 June. What’s good is that it will be offered “without reserve”. If no one else bids, you are in for 100 dollars.
