Everything will be fine
Within the Stellantis group, Peugeot is something like the backbone. It’s true that Maserati is allowed to push ahead as a luxury brand, but when Peugeot announces a “manifesto”, it becomes decisive for the whole group. The French have been announcing this for weeks now, and now they have finally let the lion out of the bag. And there are indeed quite a few things – except that the Peugeot Inception Concept can’t fly.

The most important innovation is certainly the STLA platform on which the company’s future e-cars will stand. And the French are doing a lot right: 800-volt architecture is a very important announcement for a mass manufacturer. In the future, the larger vehicles will have a 100 kWh battery, an electric motor on each axle – and a range of 800 kilometres. With a consumption of only 12.5 kWh/100 km, Peugeot is also setting an example – you can believe them, in the past their e-vehicles were among the most economical within their capabilities.

But there is much more, such as a glass dome made of a material that Nasa also uses for the helmets of its astronauts. But much more important is the reinvention of the steering wheel, now called Hypersquare, which can be used to control all important functions of the car with the fingertips. In addition, there is a pretty, round screen that displays the most important information directly in front of the driver’s eyes; classic touchscreens are not to be found in the Peugeot Inception Concept. The new operating concept is to go into series production as early as 2025.

The first new e-cars based on the STLA platform (which will be available in large and small versions) are scheduled to arrive this year. Around 2025, a vehicle that looks like the Peugeot Inception Concept will go into series production; this will probably define a new French luxury class. There’s nothing at all wrong with that.

We have more electric cars at: zero.
