Ferrari SP51

Another one-off

Ferrari uses the term SP to describe its special projects, one-offs that are produced at the customer’s request. In the meantime, it seems that they have already reached number 51, a tailor-made roadster based on the Ferrari 812 GTS. Ferrari does not want to tell you who ordered SP51 – but it is safe to assume that the customer had to transfer a respectable seven-figure sum to Maranello for his “one-off”. It is said that it came from Taiwan.

The shapes of the 812 GTS are still clearly recognisable in the open SP51, but the Centro Stile, under the direction of Flavio Manzoni, has given it a more muscular look. The Ferrari is painted in a special colour, Rosso Passionale. The white-blue stripes are an inspiration from the Ferrari 410 S from 1955. This colour pattern can also be found in the interior.

Technically, Ferrari’s special projects are always left untouched. That means: 6.5-litre V12, 800 hp, 718 NM maximum torque. The very open SP51 will probably not reach the top speed of the 812 GTS, i.e. 340 km/h, but that is not what is required for a roadster. Other roadsters based on the 812 are already known, the Monza SP1 and Monza SP2, but they belong to the so-called Icona series, not to the special projects.

The last (known) special model before the SP51 was the SP48. It is not entirely clear whether the missing numbers in between were ever built, the numbering/designation somehow does not follow any apparent logic.
