Not that the Turbo of the Porsche 911/993 was a slouch. But after Ruf had given it a tune-up, it was really mean, delivering 490 hp instead of 402 and a maximum torque of 650 Nm. But it was only a minor service that Ruf carried out: sharper camshafts, reworked turbochargers, a reprogrammed Bosch Motronic, a larger oil cooler, a new exhaust system; classic tuning, in fact (and therefore without the legendary W09 code in the chassis number). With this upgrade, the Turbo R went from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds (instead of 4.5) and reached a top speed of 329 km/h (instead of just 290). The upgrade was also relatively inexpensive, costing less than DM 30,000 (if you brought a new 993 Turbo with you) – although there was of course no upper limit. These 993 Turbo Rs are probably one of the cheapest ways to adorn yourself with a Ruf Porsche.
