Early and rare
First, Fiat built six prototypes. Then there were 34 vehicles of the first series and 29 of the second series and another 63 ‘Speciali’. As one might suspect with the chassis #000012, the vehicle shown here is a very early example, the sixth of the first series. Of the 34 examples, 26 were probably allowed to retain their original design by Luigi Fabio Rapi, and only seven of these are thought to still exist. So #000012 is a truly rare piece.

We know that this wonderful Fiat 8V with a factory body was delivered to the Fiat branch in Piazza Solferino, Turin, at the beginning of April 1953. Not much of its early history is known, but the Fiat is thought to have been entered in a few races in Italy. In 1963, the Otto-Vu came to England, was restored at least once, sold to Germany in 2010 and then to the Netherlands in 2020. The new owner commissioned a further restoration, which took four years and cost around 400,000 euros. Now the car looks better than new – and is for sale at the Houtkamp Collection.

We have a nice overview of the history of the Fiat 8V and a really nice collection of them, here.
