Business model
One wonders then. Aston Martin is not doing well, one crisis follows the next, the company is – once again – on the brink of collapse. But whenever the English launch a special model, it is sold out before it even comes onto the market. That was the case recently with the Aston Martin Vantage V12 Coupé (333 units), and now it’s the same with the Aston Martin Vantage V12 Roadster (249 units). Perhaps the English should rethink their business model.
With the exception of the roof construction, everything about the Roadster is actually the same as the Coupé. So there is the fabulous 5.2-litre V12, which is brought to an impressive 700 hp and 753 Nm of maximum torque by two turbos. This gives the open-top Aston a top speed of over 320 km/h and a top speed of 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. Shifting is done via an 8-speed ZF automatic, the power of course only goes to the rear wheels. The weight is given by the English as 1855 kilos and they refer to ample measures in lightweight construction.
The English don’t want to reveal a price – why should they, they’ve all been sold anyway. But perhaps they are now thinking about what else they could do with the twelve-cylinder, as customers seem to enjoy this engine more than the four-litre eight-cylinder bought from AMG. Which is understandable.
