Ferrari 212/225 Export – #0190ED

Pimped

It’s another one of those Ferrari stories. It starts with the fact that it’s not entirely clear which series this vehicle belongs to, 212 or 225? The chassis number #0190ED points to a 225 export, but the first buyer, the Frenchman Jacques Peron, is said to have received a blue and white Vignale Berlinetta as a 212 export in May 1952. He sold it after only one race in Casablanca to Marius Heyman, a Frenchman living in Morocco. He entered #0190ED in Liège-Rome-Liège – and was killed in a collision with a tree on the return journey from Rome. The car then reappeared in 1955 in a garage near Paris, now claiming to be a 225, and was entered in various races by Joseph Ampoulié – until the car was completely gutted by a fire in 1957.

It then took almost 20 years for the wreck to resurface. The ruin was moved back and forth, and in 1999 the vehicle was completely restored after being measured against #0170ET, another Vignale berlinetta. The car is now dark red, comes to Italy via Italy and England via Germany, and is now blue again. From 2020, the berlinetta is being completely rebuilt at Ferrari Classiche and will of course receive the coveted ‘Red Book’, i.e. confirmation that everything is correct, ‘matching numbers’. Sure.

RM Sotheby’s is auctioning this Ferrari in Paris in February 2025. 2.5 to 3.5 million euros are expected. We have a nice, very detailed collection of Ferrari 212s here. And another one of Ferrari 225s, here.
