Maserati Ghibli 4.9 SS Spyder – #1273

Detours

This Maserati Ghibli Spyder with the chassis number AM115S/491273 left the factory in Modena on 7 December 1971 and was then shipped to the United States, where the Spyder arrived in January 1972. In April 1972, Irene Young of Westport, Connecticut, bought the Maserati, which was painted in Oro Logchamps and had a brown interior. The next traces of the car were found in Florida in 1987, and it was then traced to Ohio, Sweden and France – and from there back to the USA. At some point during this long journey, the Ghibli Spyder, one of 30 examples with the 4.9-litre engine and one of 24 examples with the manual 5-speed transmission from ZF, was completely painted black and also received a black interior. In 2020, #1273 was completely restored, repainted in its original colour, and the American indicators and bumpers were also removed, which certainly didn’t detract from the look. Now the open-top Ghibli, which also has a hardtop, needs a new home again; it will be auctioned off to Gooding & Co. at Amelia Island, where between 900,000 and 1,100,000 dollars are expected.

Of course, we have more to the Maserati Ghibli Spyder, here. And we also have an archive.
