Now it’s getting crazy (2)
We only recently had this title, now it’s getting crazy, also with a Porsche, a Ruf CTR ‘Yellowbird’, for which at least six million dollars are expected. Now it needs that again, this time for this Porsche 959 Sport, chassis number WP0ZZZ95ZJS905016 – and again it’s for an absurd amount, because RM Sotheby’s has put a price tag of between 5.5 and 6.5 million dollars on this vehicle.

Now just between us cloistered nuns: Yes, I’m no longer the youngest, but I well remember that these 959s were available for less than a quarter of a million, sometimes even in the five figures – and yet they were like lead. Nobody wanted them, they were far too expensive to maintain, the technology was too problematic, and they were often put away because repairs were not worthwhile. About ten years ago, prices began to rise gently, and five years ago, really good examples reached the million mark. That has doubled again, but has remained fairly constant at around two million in the past two years. And now, out of nowhere, almost triple that?

Well, we are dealing here with one of only 29 sports (there were probably 292 in total), 100 kilos lighter, no air conditioning, no radio, no adaptive suspension (only a problem area anyway). It also has just 3,757 miles on the clock, a still manageable number of owners; it was in Switzerland for a long time. But at least $5.5 million? Incidentally, for half that amount, you can get a 959 SC from Canepa with 825 hp, see here. Or a Ferrari F40.
