The logical consequence
After the CTR, better known as the ‘Yellowbird’, quickly became a legend, RUF naturally needed a similar model based on the 911/993 introduced in 1994. But this time, the team in Pfaffenhausen went even further. The CTR2 was already quite visibly different from the basic 911 Turbo, with Kevlar parts, a slight widening, a slightly different roofline, special rear-view mirrors and, above all, a different rear wing, which not only had to provide downforce but was also aerodynamically optimised and brought additional air to the two turbos. Of course, there were larger brakes, an integrated roll cage, Recaro seats – and even all-wheel drive if you wanted it.

A 3.6-litre boxer engine, as used in the Porsche 962 for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, provided the power. In the first stage of development, the CTR2 also had 520 hp and 685 Nm, and later it was even 580 hp. The Ruf Porsche accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and was theoretically capable of speeds of up to 354 km/h. When it was introduced in 1995, the CTR2 was the fastest production car in the world. Probably 16 CTR2s were built, plus 12 sports versions, as used by Ruf in 1997 for the hill climb at Pikes Peak, with 702 hp – Steve Beddor came second with this, although his car remained completely ‘street legal’.

The vehicle we are showing here has the chassis number W09BD0364WPR06010 and was only produced in 1998 according to the special requests of a rather fussy customer. The vehicle probably cost around 400,000 German Marks at the time – and is being offered by Broad Arrow in Monterey 2024. Estimated price: 2.2 to 2.5 million dollars!
