The Alpine A110 is one of our favourites anyway, we’ve written about it several times, for example here. Now the French have gone one better: the Alpine A110 R. Not more horsepower (still 300), but a few kilos less (now 1087). And above all, clearly improved aerodynamics, both less air resistance and higher downforce. This actually impossible balancing act was achieved with the help of the in-house Formula 1 specialists. On paper, the result is excellent performance: the R goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, with a maximum speed of 285 km/h. But that’s not what an Alpine is about. But that’s not really what an Alpine is about, it wants to be fun on the winding country road and on the mountain and sometimes even on the track – and one can assume that the A110 R will bring a lot of that. The price has not been fixed yet, but you can order now.
There is also a special edition of this Alpine A110 R, 32 pieces. The connoisseur will already know who it is dedicated to. Yes, Fernando Alonso and his 32 Grand Prix victories. Alonso himself has sharpened up the special model once more, starved off more kilos, revised the chassis, insisted on 6-point seat belts, chosen the colour – just what a Formula 1 driver does all day long. The only stupid thing now is that the Spaniard no longer wants to work with Alpine in the future and will let his flag fly in the wind of Aston Martin from next season on.
Of course, you don’t have to worry about the 32 copies of the “Fernando Alonso” edition, they will find their buyers (although the price will probably be quite high). But it’s just stupid to focus your marketing efforts on a man who doesn’t even want to be there any more.
Anyway, the Alpine A110 R can be bought. And it will bring driving pleasure even without the Spaniard’s insignia. And that’s what it’s all about. We have more fine vehicles in our archive.
