Lamborghini Espada – first series

The unconventional

OK, we’ve already covered all of this. There is a very detailed story about the Lamborghini Espada here. And there is also a collection there, nicely divided into the three different series. However, it has become somewhat confusing, so we want to subdivide it now, starting from the beginning. That is, with the first series.

VIN: 7216 (1969)
Auction: Bonhams, Goodwood 2019, sold for 89’700 pounds, with these informations: «Built to European specification in Sant’Agata Bolognese and delivered new to France, this Series I Espada comes with a large file of bills dating back to 1998. Over €108,000 worth of work has been carried out on the car since 1998, including overhauls to the engine, gearbox and clutch undertaken by P3 Automobiles of Cannes in 2009 totalling €30,500 as well as benefitting from the care of Lamborghini specialists Michel Mercier Automobiles in Paris and Automobili Lamborghini. In 2016 the car was repainted in its original Bianco (white) livery by Carrosserie Martin in Paris and a ceramic coating was applied to the paintwork in 2017. A ‘Rapport D’Evaluation’ by Cerede Bonoron Expertises in 2017 describes the vehicle to be ‘in a very satisfactory condition both mechanically and in the bodywork and saddlery’. Other recent work saw the carpets reconditioned, including in the trunk. The only deviations from standard are the fitting of air conditioning and a key circuit breaker for added security. Chassis number ‘7216’ belonged to French collector Mr Vincent Pierrat from 1998 to 2017 when it passed via a Mr Poujol to the current vendor. Since then the engine has been overhauled again (by Revolution Vehicles in the UK) as the car had been standing, unused, for some time (see bill for £13,000 on file).»

There will be more over time. There are more Lamborghinis in the archive.

The Lamborghini Espada is one of the most beautiful 4 seater GT cars in the world and unlike any other car from that period (1968-1978) and will never be even in 2025 or the future. All 1217 Espadas built in all 3 series are beautiful cars with understated elegance, style and thrilling performance. It was overshadowed by it’s sibling The Miura and so was it’s sibling Jarama and Islero but share the same V-12 350 HP normally aspirated via 6 Weber side draft 40DCOE carburetors, quad cams, twin coils, and a ZF 5 speed manual transmission. It’s only a matter of time for the Espada, Jarama and Islero to catch up to the Miura and rise in value and desirability. After 8 years of searching I found my dream Espada series 3 in Ivory and chocolate leather interior. It’s in immaculate original condition and drives like a magic carpet.
