AC Ace – BEX494

Well rested

Another AC Ace, this time it is BEX494. This is fairly easy to decipher: 2-litre Bristol engine (in this case a 100-D2, so with more power), left-hand drive. The white roadster with a red interior was delivered ex works on 1 October 1959 to Arlington, Virginia. Nothing is known about the first owner, but we do know about Tim Aiken, the next owner, who bought the Ace in 1962, drove it for a year – and then ended up with a blown cylinder head. Aiken, then a student at Yale, put the car away – and then started a restoration almost 40 years later. However, this was only completed by the next owner, who was able to buy the AC in 2005. This is probably why BEX494 only has 13,000 miles on the clock. Those who want to add to that have the chance at Gooding & Co. at Amelia Island 2025, where the English car will be auctioned. 250,000 to 325,000 dollars are expected.

The history of the AC Ace/Aceca can be found here, and a collection can be seen here. And there is also the archive.
