Porsche 959 – #900131

The Prince

It is likely that this was not the only Porsche 959 in the Brunei royal family’s quite respectable collection. In any case, the first owner of the ‘Komfort’ was Prince Sufri Bolkiah, third in line to the throne, who had configured the Porsche with the chassis number WP0ZZZ95ZJS900131 in Graphite Metallic, a colour that was only ordered 31 times. However, because the prince had plenty of other options for getting around, he only managed to cover 1,640 kilometres by 2004, when the vehicle was sold to Canada. In 2006, Ken Lingenfelter from Brighton, Michigan, became the next owner. He immediately sent #900131 to Bruce Canepa, where the Porsche was made roadworthy for the USA – and also received a gentle upgrade to 576 hp. The 959 also got a new speedometer, which now shows 826 miles – not a lot in the past 20 years or so. Especially when you consider the effort Canepa went to. But we don’t have to understand everything, we just got another 959 in our collection, which also includes a lot of background and a test drive.

Gooding & Co. will auction #900131 at Amelia Island in 2025, with an expected price tag of $2–2.5 million. You can find more exciting vehicles in our archive.
