Supercar Owners Circle Jerk

Full-body hair removal

This coming weekend, the Supercar Owners Circle Jerk is meeting up once again (if you don’t know what a ‘circle jerk’ is, do please Google it yourself). In Andermatt, Switzerland, at that unspeakable Chedi hotel, which is also known to cheat its guests from time to time; it’s a fitting venue for this little clique of gold-chain-adorned show-offs with chest-hair toupees (though, apparently, that’s no longer in fashion these days), so let’s go for full-body hair removal instead. Compared to most of these gentlemen (and they are exclusively such; I do not count ‘trad-wives’ and Russian fourth mistresses amongst the women), Peter Thiel is a thoroughly likeable chap, Peter Hegseth a model intellectual, and every toothy lawyer in a pink Lacoste cardigan a cheerful mate. I once witnessed it in passing; I’ve never seen so much greed, swagger and attempts to boost one’s ego in one place before.

In principle, none of this is a problem (well, if I’m being honest, it is); the lads are just doing their own thing, and that’s fine. But now they’ve managed to get a few mountain passes closed off around Andermatt. And that leaves me, with my quintessentially Swiss understanding of democracy, deeply confused and saddened – and very concerned. So a few idiots (there’s no other way to describe them; they keep causing terrible accidents) are allowed to race over the mountains, just like that? Who gets paid for this? As a daft taxpayer, do I get anything back from what these tax optimisers are shelling out? Does the race organisation – which at the weekend is usually happy to lie in the bushes in camouflage gear at these mountain passes, using laser guns to make sure the Dutch camper sticks to the rules – have the week off? And how does triage work if these idiots – as usual – crash themselves to bits; does the helicopter come then – or is the Dutch camper rescued first?

Personally, I find it utterly pathetic that something like this can take place in Switzerland. The fact that Classic Driver and other otherwise quite decent media outlets are hyping it up endlessly is completely baffling. This ‘circle jerk’ is a very apt expression of what’s going completely wrong in the world right now. Or what do you think?
