Lamborghini Espada – second series

Normalisation

The first complaints about the Lamborghini Espada soon reached Sant’Agata, regarding the quality of workmanship and the space available. And the first Espadas didn’t sell particularly well either, with just 186 units sold by 1970. So the second series was submitted, called S2 or GTE, with a new 350 hp. The S1’s rather futuristic interior was smoothed, simplified, the underbody was lowered slightly to allow for more headroom, and power steering was now also available on request. Between 1970 and 1973, a proud 575 units of the S2 were sold; the Espada had long since become the (then) most commercially successful Lamborghini.

First of all, we are showing a white Espada S2 so that you can see the difference compared to the white example of the first series that has already been presented. This is chassis number #7725, which was auctioned by RM Sotheby’s in Paris in 2018 for an impressive 161,000 euros.

VIN: 7915
Engine: 40309
Auktion: RM Sotheby’s, Paris 2025, estimate 80’000 to 120’000 Euro, with these infomations: «The Series II example offered here is recorded to have been delivered new via Lamborcar of Milan on 3 July 1970. The Espada was finished in Argento Metallizzato over a Nero interior, a colour combination the car retains to this day. While its subsequent history is not documented, the Lamborghini joined The Curated Collection in 2012. In the following years, the Espada was subject to around €50,000-worth of cosmetic restoration work completed by various Belgian bodyshops.»

Of course, there is more to come. You can also find more fine cars in our archive.
