Overhauled
It was only last summer that a Ferrari 250 GT ‘Low Roof’, i.e. built by Boano, was sold at auction. It was offered by RM Sotheby’s at the time, with an estimated price of 800,000 to 1,000,000 dollars, but was only sold after the auction. This means: for less than $800,000, the exact price is not given in such transactions. That it was a pure business deal can be seen now, because #0639GT is coming up for auction again, this time at Gooding & Co. at Amelia Island 2025, where it is expected to fetch $700,000 to $850,000. However, this is unlikely to be a great deal. The Ferrari seems to be a bit ‘burnt’, as insiders say, the market doesn’t want it, at least not at this price.

Somehow, the #0639GT doesn’t deserve that. The Boano 250s are beautiful, fine cars, 3-litre Colombo V12s, you don’t see them at every roadside, only 68 were built. This vehicle was sold in March 1957 to Giorgio Mondadori, once the biggest and most powerful publisher in Italy. At that time, the Ferrari was still grey with a red interior; it was given its new, similar colour in 2012 during a restoration in England. In 2017, the engine was also overhauled and since 2018, the vehicle has been in the USA. However, the buyer from 2024 has driven the Boano 1500 kilometres in the past few months, so it hasn’t just been sitting around, as happens with many other speculative objects.
