Garage find
Probably every one of the 108 Porsche 904s built, also known as Carrera GTS, has its own special history – as is usual with racing cars. But that is precisely what often makes the history of each 904 difficult: accidents, new engines, gearbox damage, conversions – most of these Porsches have experienced a lot. And of course not everything is well documented. Or has been ‘embellished’ over the years. Which at the same time opened the floodgates to fantasies: unfortunately, what is written on the Porsche 904 is often not what is inside. Or as Jay Leno once said so beautifully: ‘This is one of 54 Bentley Blowers, of which only 135 still exist’. What we want to express is that it is not that easy to find a really good, clean Carrera GTS.

This example, chassis number 904-030, was delivered to the well-known racing driver Werner Brockhaus on 21 February 1964 via the Fribourg Porsche dealer. Brockhaus, who apparently already owned a 356 Carrera Abarth GTL, drove 13 races with his new Porsche until 1966, winning four hill climbs. He then sold 904-030 to Bernard Alter, who was a little short of money. In 1968, the car came to the well-known French driver Dominique Thiry, who apparently left the Porsche in a garage in Marseille after only a few races. It was not until 2005 that the Porsche reappeared. Now, that could be a problem, such huge gaps in the history are rarely good, but it is said that insiders always knew about the existence of 904-030. From 2008, however, the Porsche was often seen, used a lot in historic events, and most recently it found a home in Monaco with Claudio Roddaro, a well-known collector.

What are we trying to say? Nothing, the car is for sale at Rock’n’Roll Classics, the price is available on request. And the full history of the Porsche 904 can be found here. There is also the archive.
