Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6 X88

Special features

It’s confusing – and sometimes we wonder whether Porsche itself had a clear overview back then. So: for the 1994 model year, there was the famous ‘flat-body’ version, three, or rather four variants, X83, X84, X85 and also the ‘Package’, which wasn’t a flat-body at all; we’ve broken all that down very neatly here. Now there’s another special feature: the X88. This was actually a ‘Package’, i.e. with the powerful M64/50 engine, revised cylinder heads, sharper camshafts, more air for the turbo, improved intercoolers, resulting in 385 hp (instead of 360 hp) and 520 Nm of maximum torque. It also got the sleek Speedline 18-inch wheels, a new front spoiler (X92) and a four-pipe exhaust system (XE2). So what sets it apart from the ‘package’? Nothing really, except that instead of being produced for the American market, the X88 was made for the German (European?) market. Sixty-four units are said to have been produced (only 17 of the ‘Package’ were known to exist). These X88s can be identified by their chassis numbers, which begin with 470 – and by their significantly lower prices.

Engine: 61R01012
Auction: Broad Arrow, Air/Water 2025, estimate 530’000 to 560’000 Dollar, with these informations: «This German-market 911 Turbo 3.6 X88 was completed by Porsche Exclusive on 2 December 1993 as a 1994 model year. Finished in stunning Paint-to-Sample non-metallic “Ferrari Yellow” over a Black leather interior, its extensive original options list included heated and electrically-height-adjustable sports seats, electric sliding sunroof, top tinted windscreen, deleted model designation, and a 92-liter fuel tank along with the coveted X88-code equipment. Additionally, this exclusive package car also carries a rare front lip spoiler (X92) typically reserved for the Turbo S X88—of which just 17 were built. Offered with 52,848 kilometers (approximately 32,839 miles) at the time of cataloging, this powerful and rare 964 variant benefits from a recent major engine-out service courtesy of Repasi Motorwerks LLC in Stratford, Connecticut. The work, completed in November 2023, addressed multiple systems including engine oil leaks, secondary air components, waste gate rebuilding, fuel and ignition system service, a clutch replacement, and suspension upgrades with Bilstein coil-overs and RSR-style tie rods and control arms. The car also received brake system refurbishment with stainless steel lines and caliper refinishing, HVAC repairs, and a Fister short shifter upgrade. Invoices on file show the car had 50,465 kilometers recorded at service completion, with the total cost of the work exceeding $55,000».
