Ferrari F40 – #76687

The Unique One

VIN: 76687
Engine: –

One of eight (or, depending on how you count them, 13) prototypes. According to an article in Classicdriver from 2019, it is important to note that: “Perhaps the most striking details are the extended Lexan side sliding windows and the rear fog lights. Instead of being horizontal in the bumper, they are integrated vertically into the rear grille of the engine compartment, on either side of the number plate. The interior features seats otherwise only found in GT/LM racing cars, and the headliner is attached directly to the roof, allowing a clear view of the cross-shaped struts. Under the front bonnet is a two-piece spare wheel well with leather straps for securing the imaginary spare wheel. The brake cooling ducts have a different shape, and even the screws for the fuse box cover are of a different type. Curiously, the car is equipped with specially manufactured catalytic converters. This, in combination with a cable-thick hole in the rear bulkhead, suggests that it was used to test and finalise the exhaust gas purification system installed in all later F40s. Sold through DK Engineering.
