This is a wonderful story. In January 1992, Christiano Guasti took delivery of his – naturally – red Ferrari F40 with chassis number #91078. He immediately sold it for 455,000,000 lire to Stefano Bucci, who straight away took the car to the Modena-based specialist Motor. There, the car was modified in accordance with Group N regulations: slightly lightened, fitted with larger brakes and OZ rims, and tuned to 550 bhp. Bucci then not only raced it (and with some success, at that), but also drove it to these races under its own power on occasion. By the end of 1993, when Bucci withdrew his F40 from racing, the first 20,000 kilometres had been clocked up. But he continued to drive the Ferrari regularly; by the time he had it restored in 2003, it had already clocked up 90,000 kilometres. And in 2015, when he sold #91078 to David Sutil, the brother of former Formula 1 driver Adrian Sutil, the odometer read 120,000 kilometres. In 2017, #91078 then came to DK Engineering, was restored again, entirely in Bucci’s style – and then put back into racing action.
